Breakdown or Breakthrough

I had a wonderful catch up conversation with a good friend and colleague this morning.

This amazing young woman inspires me and encourages me to be and do my best and think creatively. We've know each other for about 5 years now. She's bright, she's creative and she's willing to take some risks to do what she has a passion for.

Funny thing is, we've never met in person!  We're hoping for October at a conference, however my schedule may prevent me from going. Anyway, my point and refining moment is about something we were talking about during our conversation.

We were chatting about a personal situation and I said " That wasn't a breakdown, it was a breakthrough!"

That's how we should try and approach the adversity and challenges we face in life - especially when we are on the other side of 50!  I have learned through experience that it's the learning, humility and enlightenment that comes from the challenges that I appreciate the most.  Sometimes we just want to pack a suitcase and head down Route 66 - and maybe that's OK to do - if it leads us to a place of peace and acknowledgement of adjustments we need to make in our attitudes, emotional well-being and communication in order to improve ourselves.

When that happens, it does qualify as a breakthrough, for sure.

Thanks, my Atlanta friend for helping me with today's refining moment!!

  2. Thanks.

It's a colleague and friend, Chrissy Scivicque. She is originally from Santa Rosa, but moved to Atlanta to be the content editor for Office Arrow, the site I write a column for. She just started her own - a terrific site. Check it out at www.eatyourcareer.com She's amazingly creative and really has a great feel for the new workplace trends. You should read her stuff.
