Dandelions

Sometimes feeling joy in my life is simply a matter of changing my perspective. I heard a story on Saturday about a mother who was driving her two daughters to dance class. They passed a huge field full of dandelions. She looked at them and thought about all the weeds the owner would have to take care of. Her youngest daughter looked out the window and said, "Mommy, look at all those dandelions waiting to be blown!"

We can either see a field of dandelions as 1,000 weeds or 1,000 wishes!

I'll choose the wishes.

Breakdown or Breakthrough

I had a wonderful catch up conversation with a good friend and colleague this morning.

This amazing young woman inspires me and encourages me to be and do my best and think creatively. We've know each other for about 5 years now. She's bright, she's creative and she's willing to take some risks to do what she has a passion for.

Funny thing is, we've never met in person!  We're hoping for October at a conference, however my schedule may prevent me from going. Anyway, my point and refining moment is about something we were talking about during our conversation.

We were chatting about a personal situation and I said " That wasn't a breakdown, it was a breakthrough!"

That's how we should try and approach the adversity and challenges we face in life - especially when we are on the other side of 50!  I have learned through experience that it's the learning, humility and enlightenment that comes from the challenges that I appreciate the most.  Sometimes we just want to pack a suitcase and head down Route 66 - and maybe that's OK to do - if it leads us to a place of peace and acknowledgement of adjustments we need to make in our attitudes, emotional well-being and communication in order to improve ourselves.

When that happens, it does qualify as a breakthrough, for sure.

Thanks, my Atlanta friend for helping me with today's refining moment!!
